Burnout and overwhelm are common with international students as they are trying to juggle school work, life, and their part-time job all at once. This feeling should be avoided as it has negative impacts like depression, illness, and poor academic performance. Here are 6 ways to avoid burnout and stay productive as an international student:

Manage Your Time Properly

Don’t try to do everything all at once. Make a list of everything you need to complete, and start with the most vital tasks first. Use a day planner to note significant events and deadlines. This will give you plenty of time to organize your assignments and do them well without feeling rushed.

Take Regular Breaks

Normalize taking breaks as much as you can. You need to be in the right mind to execute your task effectively. Taking little breaks throughout the day will help you feel more refreshed, perform better, and improve your memory.

Prioritize Self-care

Take care of your body and mind. Engage regularly in activities you love, and it could be reading, eating good meals, travelling, etc. it doesn’t have to always be on the weekends. Create a morning or early-evening routine to give your body and mind the care it needs.

Get Enough Sleep

A bad sleep pattern can greatly mess up your productivity and efficiency; please avoid this. Sleep is a way to refresh your body and mind and is crucial for your health. Avoid using screens an hour before bed in order to obtain a decent night’s sleep because the blue light they emit can keep your mind active.

Try Journaling

You can process your feelings through journaling. It has been proven to improve mental health by allowing you to express your negative feelings in a constructive and healthy way. Writing down everything you’re experiencing with a pen will help you feel better and relieve mental stress.
